Legislation to improve the quality of the air in SLC is greatly appreciated. So, kudos to the House for passing the bill for tax credit on electric cars. The only flaw to HB74 is that this tax credit would only last one year. I'm pretty sure the fixes to our air problems will be needed longer than that!

But here's the real travesty: SB139 is asking for a fee hike for clean-fuel vehicles ("Electric cars may get tax credit, but see registration fees triple, Tribune, Feb. 12). What?

Why are they being punished for purchasing an environmentally friendly car or truck? Are we trying to reduce air pollution or not? These are mixed messages from our leaders.
