Letter: Replace gas tax with user fee based on size, emissions, use
First Published Feb 27 2014 01:01 am • Last Updated Feb 27 2014 01:01 am

How about this simple, fair idea: Repeal the gas tax for road maintenance and replace it with fees based on vehicle gross vehicle weight, emissions and use (odometer readings). Using these three parameters would also end the socialistic subsidies for those who feel they need to drive a monster truck to get a carton of milk.

Any gas tax could then be used to offset health-related costs of pollution.
