The Jan. 16 Forum letter from Arlene Griffiths ("‘Marriage’ taken; gay couples should find another word") is so inane it hardly merits comment, but I will try.
Our Founding Fathers witnessed the results of governments controlled by religion and therefore gave us the protection of separation of church and state. For that reason anything the Bible says or doesn’t say does not come into play as far as the government goes any more than the Torah, the Koran or any other religious writing would.
The term "same-sex marriage" has no significance. To the people involved, a marriage is a marriage. I do not refer to my marriage as an opposite-sex marriage.
Also, the Bible does not refer to televisions, radios, computers, the Internet or any number of things that would have been unimaginable in that day. Does Ms. Griffith refuse to believe in their existence also?
