Letter: Morality different for different people
First Published Jan 09 2014 01:01 am • Last Updated Jan 09 2014 01:01 am

Donald Evett suggests that morality in this country is at its lowest because gay couples have been given the right to get married ("Freedom brings erosion of morality," Forum, Jan. 1).

Donald, what gives you the right to say what is moral to anyone other than yourself? Morality is, by definition, the distinction between right and wrong, good and bad — a very personal view. As far as I’m concerned, not allowing gay couples to get married is wrong; in other words, immoral.

You also suggest that there will come a day when this will all change and the wrath of God will prevail. I feel sorry for you, Donald, for the God that you believe in sounds hateful and judgmental.

The deity I believe in, on the other hand, is soft, caring, nonjudgmental and loves everyone regardless of sexual orientation, race, religion, etc.
