Letter: LDS Church is a protector of freedom of choice

Tribune ex-writer Diane Cole whines about the First Amendment and "refuge" from control by the Mormon Church ("Utah needs a financially secure Tribune," Opinion, Nov. 30). What nonsense.

The LDS Church is as fundamental a protector of freedom as exists. There is hardly a more compelling Mormon doctrine than agency — freedom of choice — and none defend it more.

Might this kind of paranoia die the death it deserves? Dare we hope that one day the Tribune will grow up to become a real newspaper and cease sponsoring slanted, anti-Mormon bigotry and ignorance?
