Cherilyn Bacon Eagar quoted the Iron Lady in defense of her argument that Medicare is our slippery slope into a socialist nation ("Slide toward socialized medicine began with Medicare," Opinion, Nov 23). Perhaps she is unaware of England's National Health Service, which provides free care to every citizen. Former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was a defender of the system, saying "The NHS is safe in our hands."

The prime minister knew, as most rational people know, that providing universal health care does not make a nation socialist. It is more akin to providing for roads, ports and security. We should scrap the Affordable Care Act and do the simple thing: Medicare for all.
