The war in Afghanistan has been both the longest and quietist war in America's history. Given the lack of information about the hostilities it is easy for those of us at home to go on with our lives oblivious to the war.

The current mission of coalition troops is to train domestic Afghan forces to take over security actions. It is unclear how well this is going and we will likely not have any better idea by the end of 2014 when our current troop levels are to be significantly reduced.

It would be good if the media would step up their reporting on the war. We might then gain a sense of a very unfortunate reality and perhaps understand our foreign policy.
