Letter: Church finally urges preservation of Earth
By interspersing the names of our national parks with fossil fuel development, David E. Jensen gave us pause to contemplate the enduring value of these treasured areas ("Shutdown emphasized value of public lands," Forum, Nov. 12). We need to preserve these unique landscapes.
I am pleased that more people and organizations are recognizing the importance of wild and undeveloped places. Last week the LDS Church released an official statement, "Environmental Stewardship and Conservation." Speaking of the Earth, it stated, "some portions are to be preserved."
Considering our disrupted climate, acidifying oceans, pine beetle infestations, among other environmental threats, shouldn't we all be practicing stewardship and conservation, regardless of our religious beliefs?
