A recent Tribune article ("FDA to ban artery-clogging trans fats," Tribune, Nov. 8) quoted FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg saying the removal of artificial trans fats from our foods "could prevent 20,000 heart attacks and 7,000 deaths each year."

Later in the article, Michael Taylor, the FDA deputy commissioner for foods, said, "We want to do it (remove trans fats from foods) in a way that doesn't unduly disrupt markets."

Heaven forbid that we should disrupt the trans fat marketplace to save 20 lives per day.
