Last month Salt Lake City residents participated in a mail-in ballot procedure with a 25 percent return — very significant. These SLC citizens voted by an 88 percent margin to get corporate money out of politics and put into law that money is most definitely not free speech and only leads to corruption. We need to encourage the council to conduct more such exercises in true democracy.
Move to Amend Salt Lake City spearheaded this ballot initiative. Move to Amend is part of a national coalition to reverse the 2010 Citizens’ United Supreme Court ruling that allowed corporate money to flow more freely in politics.
Go to MovetoAmend.org to add your name to thousands on the We The People Petition to reverse Citizens’ United, get corporate money out of politics and restore democracy. With grass-roots numbers, we can effect change.
