Letter: Tea party is based on greed, not patriotism

Sandy Thackeray ("Tea party should break from traditional GOP," Forum, Oct.25) believes that America needs a third party based on "standing for something." She suggests that the tea party is that party.

I agree that the current elected officials of our two-party system are not working well together. They stand for different views with a common core: greed. An additional party will not ensure solutions, especially the tea party. The last month has proven such.

The tea party is not even a real political party. It is more of a Halloween party. It is a group of extreme right wingers in costume claiming to be "patriots" with nothing more than a radical personal agenda, not America's welfare in mind.

The issue is unethical greed. Until whoever is elected from whatever party has the ethics to put 100 percent of Americans first, nothing will change. When money, profits, corporations, tax write-offs, other countries, become secondary to America, and by that I mean the 99 percent, only then will we on the road to accomplishing a government of the people.

Thackeray, it is not about standing up for something, it is about what you stand up for.
