Re your reporting of PETA's complaint against Carriages for Hire ("Death of Jerry the horse sparks PETA complaint," Tribune, Oct. 23):
Salt Lake City investigated Jerry's illness and death, published the report on its website finding no abuse of animals (to the contrary, good animal welfare, according to veterinarians) and no problems or violations per the Salt Lake City police.
On the basis of that report, the City Council appropriately voted to allow the carriage business to continue. They also voted against Councilman Charlie Luke's proposed revisions, since no wrongdoing or animal abuse occurred.
Despite the facts, PETA continues to harass a carriage business that practices good animal welfare. Repeating false allegations will not make them come true. Shame on PETA for spending donated funds harassing people who take good care of animals, instead of looking for legitimate animal welfare issues in need of attention.
And shame on the Tribune for continuing to act as PETA's press agent in perpetuating false information.
