To solve a problem, it is important to get to its core. So the question must be: Are Boy Scout Leaders in Utah ignorant or malicious?

The latest incident in Goblin Valley ("Men may face felony charges after toppling Goblin Valley formation," Tribune, Oct. 17) is a travesty. So was the incident where a bear was shot for entering a campground where food was left out.

The list of problems is lengthy, and do we ever hear of consequences to these behaviors? If not, then why are they given a pass when others would be punished? If the issue is ignorance, why are these people put into positions of responsibility?

It's time for them to get their act together, or get out of the business of leading impressionable young men.
