Letter: Trib wrong to advocate disobeying law
This is an archived article that was published on sltrib.com in 2013, and information in the article may be outdated. It is provided only for personal research purposes and may not be reprinted.

The Tribune has sunk to a new low with the editors advocating that people should break the law ("Ignore this tax rule," Our View, Oct. 16) because "It's unlikely the state would catch you if you just went ahead and filed a joint return."

How pathetic that people in responsible positions advocate disobedience. Perhaps we should encourage everyone to pick and choose which laws to keep and which to break, hoping they will not get caught.

Unfortunately, that does not produce the kind of people we want to have for friends and neighbors nor the kind of community in which we want to live and raise our families. I have lost all respect for the editors of the Tribune.
