As a lifelong Republican and supporter of the GOP, I am convinced that our congressional representatives must compromise with their colleagues in the House and Senate and fund the Affordable Care Act. The actions of our Republican delegation have caused an economic ripple throughout the country, and we cannot afford to sustain a prolonged government shutdown. While I agree that we cannot sustain additional spending, the damage caused by this latest attempt to de-fund the ACA will prove to be much more caustic to our nation, its fragile economic recovery and the long-term viability of the republic itself.
