Every principal, athletic coach, school district administrator and legislator ought to be required to read the Tribune article on the football program at Union High School (Sept. 26, 2013). Finally someone (the Union High football coach) made realistic sense of high school sports.

Schools are for educating students in core subjects and providing exposure to lifetime activities and opportunities. And salaries of high school athletic directors and coaches should never be greater than core subject teachers, which should help direct the schools' emphasis on more meaningful education.
