Churches forced to conduct gay weddings?
Another fine article by Peggy Fletcher Stack ("Mormons join Hawaii's gay marriage fight, but with a new approach," Sept. 18). I wonder why the church feels it is important to lobby for religious liberty in the proposed legislation on same -sex marriage in Hawaii. Doesn't the First Amendment's "free exercise of religion" guarantee protect the churches? Can you imagine the government of Hawaii, or anywhere else in the U.S.A., requiring the Roman Catholic, Southern Baptist or the Mormon Church to conduct same-sex marriages?
