As the family of Derek Johnson, we cannot fully express the appreciation and gratitude we feel for everyone who is helping us celebrate Derek's life. In the midst of great tragedy we will forever remember the most heartwarming and amazing things done to uplift our spirits and show respect to those who serve our community. ("More than 1,000 gather to honor slain Draper officer," Tribune, Sept. 1; "Slain Draper police officer's life celebrated during funeral," Tribune, Sept. 6)

We thank you for all warmhearted actions including the sympathetic words, hugs and tears, ribbons tied around trees, flowers, generous donations, memorials, police car and motorcycle escorts and salutes, huge flags held high up by fire trucks, overwhelmingly perfect funeral and burial services, 12300 South lined with hundreds of caring people holding flags, 911 tribute and many more beautiful acts.

With great emotion, we thank all who helped us pay tribute to Derek's life. We will miss him more than words can say, but the inspiring stories shared of his natural goodness will stay with us forever. We want to thank the entire Utah community for their generous hearts and especially to the citizens and city of Draper for the many wonderful kindnesses shown.
