I've read that Utah has one of the lowest recycling rates the country, which surprised me considering the number of blue bins I see on neighborhood roads and driveways around Salt Lake.
What I frequently encounter in my downtown days is a familiar couple of can collectors carting about the city. These people frequently put in long days for their refund payoff.
I have no problem with someone taking the aluminum cans out of my recycling bin. In fact, I had the idea to show these people some compassion by collecting all my cans into trash bags, and leaving them separate from the rest of the recycling.
It appears like a simple step toward making my neighborhood a better place, and getting the most "recycling" out of an object.
