I think a lot of emotion is being fueled by concern for Jerry the horse. Well, our horse was fine one day, but later that day my wife went out and found it rolling and kicking on the ground, and it wasn't pulling a carriage. We had to have the vet put it down.
I agree that care and concern should be given to the treatment of all animals. If there is neglect, let the authorities address the problem.
Maybe we should outlaw hiking in Zion National Park, too. I think there have been four or five fatalities from "heat exhaustion" there. Where is our concern for those people??
