How is it that Larry Henkels is aware of Sen. Mike Lee's alterative plan to Obamacare ("Lee has a plan," Forum, Aug. 23), yet the rest of the country has not heard of it?
Henkels claims that Lee doesn't have a "bully pulpit" to make his plan known. I would offer that any respectable media source would publicize an alternative plan that had some substance. If not, then the GOP's media puppets, Fox News, Hannity, Beck, etc., would and should be bombarding the public with Lee's plan.
The truth is that Lee and the GOP have no other sustainable health plan. The GOP occupied the White House for 20 of 28 years before Barack Obama. They have offered two plans: Mitt Romney's, which is basically Obamacare, and now the constant attempted repeal of Obamacare. The exorbitant cost of health care has never been addressed in any plan.
Henkels writes that we should implement Obamacare, implying it would fail. Hoping for failure is not progressive politics. Lee should stop the grandstanding and obstructionism and work to make the Affordable Care Act succeed.
