Tears dripped beneath my reading glasses and onto my lap as I read " 'Final Letter' of Brooke Hopkins" in the Aug. 19 Salt Lake Tribune.

Brooke, thank you for sharing your love, pain and heart-felt contemplations. Fly free and easy, my good man.

Yes, it is time we start talking more humanely and intelligently about end-of-life strategies. We do it boldly for our beloved pets. Why don't we do it for each other?

Let's use Brooke's story to tug this sacred subject out from under the dusty rug of human taboos and let's use it to become a better species.
