Sim Gill, l'm sure, is affected by his childhood experience of violence in India ("Dems: GOP official out of line," Tribune Aug. 13). Most people who experience violence are turned off by it.

Chad Bennion fails to acknowledge, or is totally unaware of, his own biases and prejudices as a result of growing up in a society where "use of force" is the acceptable norm. Where "stand your ground" is the rule, where our Second Amendment rights overshadow our First Amendment rights, where the GOP uses every trick in the book to maintain total control over the electorate.

We could all use a dose of Mahatma Gandhi's teachings.
