Re "More than talks: The Philadelphia Inquirer," Opinion, Aug. 5: The Philadelphia Inquirer writes: "Can you blame Americans for not getting excited about new peace talk between Israel and the Palestinians?" No. You cannot; you must not.

For 60 years America has done its best to establish peace between these two noble peoples. The conflict continues. But America cannot, must not and ought not to carry the burden of and the blame for the failure.

Instead, Americans may say, "We have done our best, politically and economically. Let someone else give it a try." Americans may even say, "Let the International Court of Justice handle it. That would be fair. Who knows. Maybe it could succeed." Americans could say that.
