I have just read Christopher Stout's excellent op-ed, "UTA's unworkable system" (Tribune,July 28) in which he decries the current overpriced and inconvenient system run by the Utah Transit Authority. He notes that after asking for a greater sales tax share, UTA executives flew to Switzerland to study cog railways, presumably for our canyons. Stout suggests that instead they leave their cars at home and try using the system they have set up and that the rest of us must use.

Another small step they might take is to study the public transportation system in our neighbor city, Logan. There the bus system is free! Logan is smaller in size and has a smaller tax base, but there must be some wisdom there applicable to Salt Lake City.
