It should be called uglification program instead of the Neighborhood Clean-up. Every year piles of refuse begin to grow on the streets in our Salt Lake City neighborhoods, usually 10 feet high and blocking both streets and sidewalks.
In Jordan Meadows, were we live, the piles started in May and our pick-up date is not until September. Tourist are greeted to our city with mounds of trash lining the roadways. Although it is a Health Department violation, and should result in a citation, they have little in the way enforcement powers.
If anything is going to change, the city or county of Salt Lake will have to have the willpower to use our tax dollars to really make it a more beautiful place and encourage people to pay to have their own stuff hauled.
