I recently read a letter to the editor from long ago titled "Would you believe it?" and realized that the current problems with texting and talking on the phone while driving are really no different than 20 years ago.

The letter reads as follows:

"I drive my children to school every morning around eight and there are a few things I have observed: Women taking rollers out of their hair, putting on lipstick, and one woman reading a book propped up on the steering wheel — all while driving.

"I have seen men combining their hair and shaving while driving but recently I observed the absolute end. While stopped at a stoplight I glanced in the rearview mirror and observed the driver brushing his teeth.

"I am afraid curiosity has gotten the best of me. If he should read this letter would he please reply via this column and let us know how he rinsed his mouth and, pardon the expression, where did he spit the debris?"
