Pyle's belly button
This is an archived article that was published on sltrib.com in 2013, and information in the article may be outdated. It is provided only for personal research purposes and may not be reprinted.

There are so many holes in George Pyle's message, there aren't enough corks in the world to plug 'em, so I'll just address a couple ("State of the debate: The poor are revolting!", Opinion, July 14).

Pyle suggests that we are not a civilized nation. Well, maybe we should just stop spending our money to protect others and spend it on our own care. Maybe if those "civilized" nations spent more to defend themselves they might look at things differently.

As for "Big Hospitals, Big Pharma and Big Insurance," do they make a profit? Hell, yes. Do they hide it away, or do they reinvest in new treatments and drugs necessary to keep us healthy in an ever-changing world?

And last, why in the world are liberals so afraid to say the words "illegal alien"? As a country, we are more than happy to have you here if you are willing to abide by the law. If we allow you to ignore the law to come here, why would we expect you to honor it when you get here?

Maybe Mr. Pyle should stop looking at the world through his belly button.
