Nature has endowed human beings with the ability to wish and hope. Human actions fulfill some wishes but leave others unfulfilled.

I wish President Barack Obama speedy success in persuading Russia to reduce its arsenal of nuclear bombs ("Obama urges 'bold' nuclear cuts in Berlin speech," Tribune, June 20). While wishing and hoping, let's wish and hope that the leaders of the world will also agree that the oceans ought to be free from all war-making machineries and be left to those who live in them. Let us also hope and wish that good-paying jobs be made available to everyone who lives on land.

Nature has also endowed humans with the ability to fulfill our hopes and wishes.
