To our tourist friends, Utah's slogan is: "Life, Elevated." Listen up, traveler, it means: Get above our smog.
Utah's major air pollution problems could be significantly cut if the state adopted the Environmental Protection Agency's Tier 3 proposal. The Utah Air Quality Board just voted 6-2 to support the EPA proposal ("Utah's Air Quality Board endorses EPA's clean-car plan as a smog solution," Tribune, June 13).
The two board members who opposed endorsing Tier 3 were a representative from Tesoro refinery and an official of Uintah County. I'm saying goodbye to Tesoro gas stations (I've been a regular customer), nor will I visit Dinosaurland.
Now, what do we do about the let-'em-eat-cake attitude of the governor and our listless Legislature toward our smog problem?
