Just as vile

In "A vile phrase" (Forum, May 26), Edward Jones asked, "What in hell does the vile word 'financialize' mean?"

I ask, what in hell do people mean when they use the vile phrase "you know" in their conversation? Do they mean to say, "As you know" or "Do you know"?
