Bountiful City is building a new City Hall and donating the old one. The city is spending millions and giving away hundreds of thousands of dollars when sidewalks in its downtown area are so dangerous they are not fit for use.

There are places on Center Street, between 100 and 200 East, where the sidewalks are so deteriorated they cease to exist. On 100 East between 400 North and 500 South it is safer to walk down the middle of the road.

The Bountiful Fort Historical District — The area between 400 North to 500 South and 200 West to 400 East — has the worst sidewalks and roads.

It is great that the city can be so generous with the taxpayers' money to build a new City Hall, but it would be nice if the taxpayers could see some safety benefits for their tax dollars.
