In "Guns don't kill" (Forum, April 2), Richard Dorrity argues: "The gun is an inanimate object. It doesn't go on a rampage and kill people. The person does."

If I should face a loaded gun, locked in a safe, I will not be shot.

If I face a deranged or criminally motivated individual with no gun, I will not be shot. Should I face this same individual with the aforementioned gun, I could die.

To lawmakers: Improving gun safety does not require much brainpower, just a little common sense. Get cracking or get out of the way.
