Re "Worth opening on time" (Our View, April 3):

I was appalled to read that Yellowstone National Park may have opened late this spring. Because of the federal across-the-board sequester budget cuts, there wasn't enough money to plow the roads. Such mindless cutting is no way to make decisions.

We elect representatives to Washington to be wise governors, not idiots.

If America can't afford to maintain our national parks, then we are not a great country. And we are certainly not the city on the hill, the light of the world, an example of how to do things right.

If we can't keep up our national parks, how can we expect Mexico to protect the monarch butterflies or Africa the elephants and apes. Pitiful.
