I appreciate the in-depth coverage of the prostitution problem in Salt Lake City ("Prostitution arrests die along with Salt Lake City vice squad," Tribune, March 24), and I am relieved to hear that progress is being made.

I live in one of the problem areas and cannot count the times I have been approached for sex, despite never wearing provocative clothing and always wearing my wedding ring. The only enticement that I am guilty of is being female.

On behalf of all the female citizens in these neighborhoods, I beseech the Salt Lake City Police Department to show no mercy to these predators who think that all the female bodies here are for sale.

I stand with Tammy. Neither she, nor I, nor any of our neighbors should ever have to hide in our houses or carry rocks in our pockets because we run the risk of being violated as we walk along our streets, especially when we pay the police to keep us safe.
