Re "Senate OKs concealed-gun bill, sets showdown with Utah guv" (Tribune, March 14):
I have no problem with the Second Amendment’s right for the people to own and carry guns, but that is not the issue in the Utah Legislature’s recently passed bill to allow any adult Utahns to carry a concealed weapon without first getting a permit.

That seems as irresponsible as having no libel, slander or inciting to violence laws to regulate excesses in the First Amendment’s free speech rights.
If you can’t drive a car without a driver license, you shouldn’t be able to pack heat without a permit that requires proper instruction and that filters out people who shouldn’t be allowed to carry (felons and the mentally ill). That in the name of freedom our lawmakers can’t see that is just incredible. They’re overzealous idiots!
