On Wednesday, a 15-year-old Kearns boy walking to school in the dark at 7:15 a.m. was hit by a car ("Kearns teen hit by car 'stable but critical,'" Tribune, March 14).

While there are advantages to daylight saving time, isn't it about time we put some common sense into the situation. Why such an early start of DST in the year and the late change back in the fall?

A mid-April start and early October end (instead of Nov. 3) would surely serve the purpose of the intent of the program.
