Re "Utah TV viewers continue to abandon KSL Ch. 5" (Tribune, March 3):
A front-page article about KSL television's loss of ratings? Really? I am amazed that you would think this is an appropriate hard-news story.
And just what did anyone learn from it? First, KSL-TV's news has dropped in ratings — by one company's rating system, and only the ratings for one show. We also learned what ratings mean to a television station.
Oh, there was also a blow-by-blow accounting of all that has happened to cause KSL's ratings slide. Of course there have been mistakes. Every company makes them — even KUTV.
Where was The Tribune when KUTV fell into ruin in the 1990s? I don't remember that making front-page news.
Finally, there was the "editor's note" regarding the relationship between The Tribune and KUTV. What a surprise!
I hope other readers saw this article for what it was intended to do — further pull down a distinguished and honorable news-gathering organization.
A better place for such fluff would have been inside your Monday morning, reduced-in-size (due to an attempt to save money) edition. By the way, how are you all doing with readership?
