In this time of cutting back, it is inappropriate for the Hale Centre Theatre to request $2 million from the state to help it build a new facility in Sandy.

Our legislators talk about tough times, not enough revenue; it's disconcerting that programs for the poor and homeless may need to be cut back. Then The Trib reports on this boondoggle ("Hale Centre Theatre's bid for more taxpayers' money creates drama," Tribune, March 3).

It is sad that the Legislature would even consider this request before our teachers, firefighters and police are paid more money. It is disgraceful for Hale Centre's two directors, married, to jointly be paid more than $300,000.

This appropriation request is disgraceful. I'm contacting my legislators immediately and encourage all to do the same.
