Re "A bad call: Cellphone ban should apply to all" (Our View, Feb. 27):
After years of complaints on deaf ears, we may be getting some ethics reform for Utah's executive leaders. But only because our attorney general and lieutenant governor are accused of wrongdoing. It takes a scandal to change things.
Looks like we'll have to wait for a serious general ban on talking on the cellphone while driving — with harsh penalties — until a prominent Utah government official is in a serious crash caused while talking on a cellphone.
Our legislators are rarely proactive. Heck, they're barely reactive — just look at their stonewalling of serious education funding or pollution control, despite overwhelming public opinion.
