There has been a lot of talk of late on how to reduce automobile emissions on bad-air days along the Wasatch Front. Since most people don’t want to carpool or give up their cars and ride mass transit, I propose reducing the freeway speed limit to 55 mph from Ogden to Spanish Fork.
Many large metropolitan areas have already done this, including Denver, Los Angeles and Phoenix. This would not only reduce emissions but gasoline consumption.

Anyone caught speeding on yellow or red burn days would get an enhanced fine for excessive pollution. The only problem I can see is that people would have to leave for their destination about five minutes earlier. Oh, no!
