I feel affronted, not to say frightened, every time I hear a gun enthusiast insist — usually in anger — that carrying a gun is his "God-given right."

Gun rights and God have nothing to do with each other. God did not invent the gun. Men did — with warfare, not hunting, in mind.

The source of inspiration for a device designed to take life would seem more likely to have come from God's opposite number, I would have thought.

For all that angry, insistent man knows, God weeps every time he hears his name invoked to such an end.

When I was a child, The Trib kept a running tally of road deaths on the front page. How about the same now for gun deaths? That might open a few eyes.
