While federal and state prosecutors investigate to see if Utah Attorney General John Swallow broke any laws, the ethical and political questions should not be put on hold.

Fortunately, the Legislature meets next week, and the first order of business of its judiciary committees, or of a special committee, should be to hold hearings on the whole complicated and questionable matter of the attorney general's official and unofficial actions in trying to unduly influence investigations.

Put everyone under oath, and see what is said when the threat of perjury hangs over them. Or Swallow can save the public from this cesspool and just resign.
