Snow and schools

If the Salt Lake City School District wouldn't declare last Friday a snow day, when would it ever do so? School buses wouldn't start, children were standing in snowdrifts, the driving wasn't safe, sidewalks and streets in front of schools weren't cleared, and yet children were still supposed to show up on time.

I don't know whether any students, faculty or staff were injured getting to school, but I'll bet more than a few spent the weekend home sick.

It's ironic that the school district might have armed guards in the name of student safety, but the district can't take the most basic safety-related step of canceling classes on a day like last Friday.
