According to Wayne LaPierre, vice president of the National Rifle Association, "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun" ("NRA calls for armed police officer in every school," Tribune, Dec. 22). I disagree, and for the first time in 68 years, I must write a letter to the editor.

Bad guys need to be stopped by funding mental health programs, early childhood education and parenting classes to produce securely attached infants who see the world as a safe and sane place.

Please, guns are not the answer here!
