I'm sure the two new glass cathedrals in downtown Salt Lake City — the library and the new public safety building — are feathers in their designers' caps. They blend into this historical Western outpost like Annie Oakley with a diamond tiara.

The buildings are purported to be earthquake-proof. Time will tell. To the untrained eye, the external "curving glass" design lines look like an earthquake has already hit.
