Stephen Case's "Obama and rural Utah" (Forum, Dec. 3) actually did a lot to explain why the "Utah country-bumpkin conservatives" didn't vote for President Barack Obama. But not in the way he intended. All he did was just show how grossly misinformed some people are.

Despite what Case asserted, Obama is not going to take your guns. There's no conspiracy to raise gas prices so high you won't be able to drive your car. And Obama's definitely not raising taxes so your liberal neighbor can get cheap or free abortions.

In fact, the Brady Campaign to Fight Gun Violence gave Obama an F for having expanded places where people may carry firearms (national parks, Amtrak).

No politician would ever raise the gas price so high that people couldn't drive, essentially dooming his or her political party.

Lastly, Obama wants insurance companies to cover birth control (not abortions). Access to birth control significantly reduces the number of abortions.

So, Case and rural Utahns, please expand your news sources beyond Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and Fox News. Maybe you'll see that things aren't actually as bad as they seem.
