Several years ago I sat in a regular meeting of homeless service providers when most of the participants suddenly switched from speaking English to Spanish. "This is great," I whispered to the Latina next to me. "Yeah," she whispered back,"You Anglos need to stretch a little."
I offer the same "stretch a little" advice to Walt Soltys, who simplistically defined "the difference between we" peaceful Christians and "them" rioting Muslims ("Bagley unscathed," Oct. 31). The Muslims I know from graduate school, board memberships and work associations are more busy building a healthy society than trying to tear it down. There is, however, the hijab-wearing green belt in my taekwondo class who could break a clavicle without any effort, but she chooses to spend her time being a wife, mother and registered nurse.
