For the past 40 years I have been a loyal subscriber and reader of The Salt Lake Tribune because I thought it was indeed a more "independent voice," as its masthead proclaims.

I pride myself in reading all sides of an issue and making up my mind from there.

However, ever since the Denver-based MediaNews Group acquired The Trib from the Kearns family, its editorial position has become more one-sidedly liberal and no longer independent.

For the past year or so, I have been trying to be patient with The Trib, searching through its pages for differing viewpoints. However, after reading "Too Many Mitts: Obama has earned another term" (Our View, Oct. 21), I have had enough. I'm canceling my subscription.

I am not a radical conservative. I thoroughly enjoy Robert Kirby's column as he pokes fun at our Utah culture. I'll read him online.
