Twenty-six million dollars in "deferred maintenance" — that's why I am voting against Salt Lake County's parks bond, Proposition 1.
The original parks bond proposal was for $123 million, which included borrowing $26 million for deferred maintenance. "Deferred maintenance" means that Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation cannot take care of what it currently has.
The current bond proposal is $47 million for new parks, adding to what the county can't currently afford to maintain. It is financially irresponsible to create more debt for something new when you are not taking care of what you have.
Demand fiscal responsibility. Vote against Proposition 1.
